MANTECA, Calif. — A man was critically injured in a shooting Tuesday afternoon after Manteca police responded to a report involving a vehicle near North Union Road.
Officers were called at approximately 12:43 p.m. on September 22, 2026, to the 200 block of North Union Road, near the Manteca Park Golf Course. Police initially received a report that a vehicle had entered a park and may have been involved in a crash.
When officers arrived, however, they said they found no evidence of a traffic collision. Instead, they discovered a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. A firearm was also found in the street near the scene.
Victim Found With Gunshot Wounds
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and was reported to be in critical condition.
Police did not initially release his identity or provide extensive details about the injuries.
According to authorities, the shooting reportedly followed an altercation that took place inside a vehicle. Investigators are continuing to work to determine exactly what led to the confrontation.
Police Trace Suspect Vehicle
Investigators were able to develop information about the vehicle connected to the incident.
Police said a witness captured the vehicle’s license plate on video, while investigators also used Flock technology and other surveillance footage to help identify and locate the suspect.
The information gathered during the investigation led officers to a suspect in Stockton.
Suspect Arrested in Stockton
Police said the suspect was taken into custody in Stockton approximately 45 minutes after the shooting.
The arrest came as detectives continued following leads about the vehicle and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
