The Girard community is mourning the loss of Bryce Kaufmann, a junior firefighter with the A.F. Dobler Hose & Ladder Company, who died on September 21, 2026, from injuries sustained in an accident while responding to an emergency call.
Bryce was a junior at Girard High School and a valued member of the local fire department. Though he was still young, he had already developed a strong interest in the fire service and was committed to helping others.
His death has left his family, classmates, fellow firefighters, friends and members of the Girard community grieving.
Remembering Bryce Kaufmann
Bryce was known within the fire department for the excitement he showed whenever a call came in.
According to the department’s tribute, hearing the words “GEAR UP!” was enough to bring a smile to his face. He took particular pride in his bunker gear and was reluctant to give it up even after its zipper broke.
For Bryce, the gear represented more than equipment. It was part of his identity as a Junior Firefighter and his connection to the department.
A Young Firefighter Who Loved the Little Things
Those who knew Bryce also remembered the personality and small interests that made him stand out.
He had a particular love for root beer, peanuts and milkshakes, details his fellow firefighters remembered as part of the young person they knew.
