TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Former Terre Haute Police Department officer Danny Parker is being remembered for a law-enforcement career that helped shape the department’s K9 program and later influenced handlers across the United States and abroad.
The Terre Haute Police Department confirmed Parker’s death in a social-media announcement Tuesday. His work with police dogs became a major part of his professional legacy, both during his years with the department and after his retirement.
Danny Parker’s Career With Terre Haute Police
Parker served as an officer and investigator with the Terre Haute Police Department before becoming involved in the agency’s K9 operations.
According to his professional biography, he became the department’s first dual-purpose K9 handler and trainer, helping establish the foundation for the agency’s specialized K9 work.
His role eventually extended beyond Terre Haute as he continued developing his skills in K9 training.

After retiring from the Terre Haute Police Department, Parker continued working with military and law-enforcement K9 teams.
